Republican presidential candidate John Kasich raised $160,000 at a fundraiser hosted Friday night at the Hunterdon County home of former New Jersey Gov. Christie Whitman.
Kasich, the two-term Ohio governor, mingled with a roster of moderate New Jersey Republicans, including several who have been enlisted as Kasich delegates on New Jersey primary ballot on June 7 - State Sen. Jennifer Beck, R-Monmouth; Candy Straight, a longtime GOP fundraiser; former state treasurer Andrew Sidamon-Eristoff; Ocean County lawyer Lawrence Bathgate; and Gail Gordon, a GOP lawyer and fundraiser from Fair Lawn.
Kasich is competing in the New York primary on Tuesday. Recent polls place him as a distant second to real estate mogul Donald Trump. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas is in third place.
